How can I join the SGAP committee?
Ever thought about joining the SGAP Committee but weren't
too sure what is involved?
Want more information or how to go about it?
Well here are some FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) about joining:
Q. When can I join?
A. The Management Committee is elected annually at the Annual General
Meeting (AGM) which is usually held once a year in March.
The Committee consists of the - Chair, Secretary, Treasurer and 5 Committee
members plus 2 co-opted members and 2 junior members). You need to be
a Full member of SGAP (i.e. you live or work within South Gloucestershire)
to stand
for election.
Q. What does the Management
Committee Do?
A. The Management Committee is responsible for carrying out the objects
of the Group as laid down in the SGAP Constitution.
Representation in related forums is also important, such as racial equality,
and on South Gloucestershire committees. There is also an opportunity to appear
on radio and newspapers to promote our activities.
Q. How much time do I
need to give?
A. This can vary but in general you need to be able to attend about 12
meetings a year (about 2hrs each) plus help out at various functions and
activities that are held. But like all voluntary work you have to be committed
to help and enjoy putting something into the Community.
Q. Do I get Paid?
A. No. But you will be reimbursed for out of pocket expenses where appropriate.
Q. What qualifications
do I need?
A. No formal qualifications are required but your existing skills could
be useful i.e. if you wish to stand for Treasurer, an Accountancy qualification
is desirable. You need to show a willingness to contribute with your time
and experience, be resourceful and enjoy voluntary work. A passion for
community spirit is ideal.
Q. What do I get out
of it?
A. Satisfaction from contributing towards the Community and being part
of a growing voluntary group. You also have opportunities to go on training
courses to gain valuable skills, which can help you in personal development
and employment. But as with other things you get out what you put in...
Q. If I'm interested
what do I do now?
A. Email info@sgap.org.uk or ring Jitesh
Mistry 0117 931 1505 for an informal chat. You'll receive further information
and advice about how to stand for election for next year's committee.

What if I don't
want my photo to appear in SGAP media?
For the purposes of record keeping, SGAP write reviews,
record video footage and take photographs at our classes, activities,
events, and at festivities that we are indirectly involved in.
From time to time
these will appear on our website and in our newsletter, and under normal
circumstances we ask permission of the people whose
images will appear there.
On occasions where it is not possible to seek
everyone's permission individually,
such as at the AGM/Holi and Annual Show, our policy is to
use any images and narrative
we have recorded, as required.
However, we do appreciate that you
may not always want your image published in this way. If at any time
you wish to have your image(s) removed from
the website, or archived newsletters, please contact us and
let us know:
• which website page or newsletter contains the images you wish removed.
• in the case of images in the Photo Gallery,
please let us know which event page has the image you wish removed -
in particular, please provide the description of the relevant image by
noting the text that appears when you hover your mouse over that image
in the gallery.
We will then remove the image(s) as soon as possible, and inform you when it has been done.
NOTE:
1. All photos used on the SGAP website, or in SGAP
newsletters, are © SGAP.
2. The photos can be downloaded for personal use at any time, BUT cannot
be reproduced in any way for the purposes of promoting any other organisation
other than SGAP, UNLESS permission has explicitly been
granted beforehand in writing.
